Roof TentRoof tents are the coolest bit of kit an explorer can get! We first tested our Hannibal tent out in the Irish rain and were originally disappointed that it leaked. But a bit of waterproofing bought from a camping shop soon sorted that out. Roof tents originate from Africa and so are not at there best in European wind and rain. We have slept in in an a thunder and lightening storm in the Dordogne and mini hurricane in Stratford and although it was noisy, it was safe and comfortable. We also needed to buy a new cover, as the one that came with Dino had holes in it. We did originally try and patch them up with puncture repair kits, which worked well, but there were too many to do. We aim to spend about 80% of our time in the roof tent, with the rest made up with either staying in the back in adverse conditions, or staying in comfy hotels when they fall within our budget or we need a real scrub.
