Sunday 7th October 2007 - Vehicle Guide

Clickable Guide to Dino

Having watched our website statistics for over a month now, we have seen that the most popular page, after the blog and index, is the vehicle section. We hadn't really done much to this since we bought Dino, so it's time we did something about this. hence we have spent the last couple of weeks making a fully clickable guide to Dino and all his bits and pieces. It is fairly comprehensive, although we will keep adding to it. Go to it via the vehicle section of the website or via THIS LINK . The next page to get this treatment will be the route section, which is the next most popular.

Massive Thank You to Toby and Wendy

Ollie advertised on the HUBB for and overland mentor, and Toby replied. Toby has had plenty of traveling experience and also knows his way around a land rover and so was happy to show the Jolly Folliers how to service a vehicle and also give some off road driving advise. Ollie and Jenny spent a weekend with Toby, his wife Wendy, their young baby Lewis and their absolute crazy dog Havoc.

Below you can see Ollie just after the oil change. Funnily enough Jenny found the nut just to tight for her to undo!

Oily Ollie

So, after the first day of learning all about the 12k mile service Toby took us all out to his local off road course. We went in Dino, Toby in his 1968 Unimog and Wendy followed in their pink land rover. And boy did we have fun. It didn't take long for Dino to get stuck in some mud, but with a quick tow we were out. We then spent an hour or so taking Dino gently around the course before we had lunch. After lunch it was a different story though.

Jenny Unimog

Toby gave both Ollie and Jenny a lesson on how to take the Unimog around the course. After Ollie's second go a red fog came in front of his eyes and Jenny refused to get in Dino with him. Before you could say 'I told you so' Ollie had taken Dino into a ditch. Oops! It took about an hour, and all of Toby's experience to get Dino safely out of the ditch. This was a great lesson for the Jolly pair, although Ollie didn't look quite so Jolly whilst all the talk was of Dino rolling.

Peddars Way

After leaving our generous hosts O&J set of for nearby Stratford to catch some Shakespeare, which was excellent. And then it was on to the Peddars Way, and old 100 mile long Roman road in Norfolk. We were recommended this in Land Rover Owner International magazine, and it is certainly a fun and beautiful drive. We took two days to complete it, and found the green laning had everything a young (or not so young) over lander could want. This included a ford, some rut driving, driving in fields and driving over grown lanes. Once at the end of the Peddars we we popped in to see our friends Imogen and Ethan who are planning a similar trip as us. Ollie had a chance to sample some fine sloe gin. MMM

Whilst on this trip we slept in both the back of Dino and the roof tent and found that both were fine in the wind and rain, although the tent is a tad noisy. So much so that jenny thought that Dino may roll when we were in high winds! the back is lively and cozy, but takes a bit of organising.
