Thursday 12th October 2006 - The Road to Recovery (Sydney?)

RecoveryOperation Success

(Who is that crazy fool?)

To those of you anxious to know how Ollie's operation went, it was a total success. He is now recovering by eating banoffee pie and injecting lard straight into his veins. All this is totally legal once you have your gall bladder removed. Ollie cannot recommend the procedure enough!
It will now be two weeks off resting, and then the marathon training begins. Yikes!

4x4 Ownership

Team Jollyfollies are about to begin their 4x4 driver training with a course given by Land Rover Owner Adventure Club, which is the bargain price of £65 for two people for a day. Obviously at this price the training will be limited group training, but as a starter it cannot be snooted at. We will attend this on the 4th November and will give a full write up here. If it is good we will be joining these bad guys for an adventure weekend out in Wales, which again is nice and cheap, and will allow us to test out our new found skills in a controlled environment. And the added bonus of this is it's on Ollie's birthday, so a pressie's in the making for Jenny. Hint Hint.

As well as this we are going to sign up for a mechanics course that starts in January. Again this is a bargain, at only £99 per person for an 11 week course. You can also bring your own vehicle, and hence get a good servicing in for the price! :) We will be taking this course at Eastleigh College which is on both our ways home from work.
Finally we are in the process of joining a local 4x4 club, who have days out at local quarries and mud pits for about £15. We will be 4x4 hero's before you know it.

WWWebsite

With being off work, Ollie has had plenty of time to work on the website and there have been updates to the links bringing them up to date. But the most work has been done on the route section. We now have a firm route all the way to Australia, and this is mapped all the way to China on the website, including clickable maps. How exciting !

Obviously this route is bound to change as we build up to J-Day, but having something fairly firm allows us to start making some real plans. More information about these plans should appear here in the coming weeks.

Charity and Sponsorship

Without actually doing anything yet people have asked us how they can sponsor us. This is great news for us and VSO, but as yet we don't have anything in place - but hopefully this will change in the next couple of weeks. We want to make sure that we have a proper 'just-giving' or similar type link, so that people can really see that everything that they give goes straight to VSO, and none of it touches our grubby fingers. Just to reiterate, this trip is going to be totally self funded, and any fundraising we do will go straight to VSO. Anyhow, watch this space for updates.

Thanks for listening.
